Why I Love Serving in VBS and Kids Ministry

Ah! The fabulous days of summer are upon us again! If you have been at Council Road very long at all, you know that all things for kids and youth are geared up and ready to happen.   From a popsicle fest to the really big Magnified Vacation Bible School and Kidventure week for kids, to Super Summer and Falls Creek for Youth, our focus is on making great things happen in ministry for these age groups.

It takes hundreds of hours and months of planning and prepping by our ministry leaders and volunteers, weeks of committed time at camps, not to mention the time spent in prayer at all hours of the day (and night!) to seek God’s guidance, wisdom, and Holy Spirit inspiration. Why do we do this? Why do we bother? Are we just providing busy activities and child care? I promise you, if that was all we were doing, I would have hung up my I *heart* VBS t-shirt a long time ago!

Since 1977, serving the Lord through VBS and Kids Ministry has been one of the best, most amazing, incredibly rewarding experiences of my life. And I am not the only one who will tell you that. We get to see generations of families grow in understanding God’s  love for them and His provision for eternal life through Jesus. And the awesome culmination is getting to be present when a child or youth says, “Today, I want to ask Jesus to be my Lord and Savior.” That’s what it is all about.

In Psalm 78, the psalmist says,  “We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done. So the next generation would know them and they in turn would tell their children. Then, they would put their trust in God.”

Dear friend, if we miss telling the next generation about Jesus, then how will they know? And how will they know to tell their kids?

Let me challenge you to ask God what your part is in telling the next generation about Him!  Because that’s what we are all about at CRBC. Loving all people to Christ and helping them on their journey with God and each other.
