The summer season at Council Road is one of my favorite times of year! My kids are out of school and can join me in my office, we have sweet interns that we get to pour into, and there is always something exciting being planned! There is less consistency with meetings and everyone learns a new level of flexibility. We are all being pulled in different directions with our various ministries and we all get to cheer one another on!
Kids ministry thrives in the summer season! We have Vacation Bible School, Camp Perfect Wings, Summer Fun Day, Themed Wednesday night activities and Camp Crosstimbers! All of this is planned well before the summer arrives so that when we are in this summer season we can enjoy the fun that each of these events brings. Our interns on staff help us keep up with weekly tasks, organize areas that need extra attention, and help us gear up for the fall season. Promotion Sunday and First Grade Bible Presentation come on the heels of summer, and these precious interns help us so much so that we can begin preparing for them!
One of my favorite things is to watch Davis Crabtree (one of our kids ministry interns) learn to lead Wednesday nights. She plans and teaches the lesson each week and plans the themed activities. It is so fun to see our young people joining in and leading our sweet kids to Jesus. She presents the gospel each week and tells the bible story. It’s been a blast to watch her this summer.
Our kids in our ministry really thrive during the summer. All of these fun activities, camps, and events are centered around teaching our kids about Jesus. I had some incredible conversations at Vacation Bible School and I have loved following up with parents and children post Vacation Bible School! Each child that made a decision gets to come and meet with me and their parents and really explain what God did in their life in making the decision to follow Jesus. It is BY FAR my favorite part of this job. We have resources for the children and parents and love getting to hear from their hearts what God is doing.
Kids Ministry is a gift. The summer is a blast, but these incredible kids learn about Jesus all year long and it is a privilege to lead them! Sometimes I can’t believe that God has allowed me to be their children’s minister. Believe it or not, I love the chaos that is kids ministry. They are funny, ask insightful questions, and are the most genuine humans I’ve ever been around. I can’t thank our church and parents enough for allowing me to be their children’s minister!
