Racial Diversity: Children’s Reading Recommendations

zion2.jpg

I love reading with my daughter!

As you can see from Zion’s photo above, we love reminders of the beautiful creativity and diversity of God.  God loves all the different kinds of people He created and here are two of our favorite books celebrating His love for diversity:

Colorfull: Celebrating the Colors God Gave Us, by Dorena Williamson

This book sweetly covers the wonder of so many colors God created in our world. Dorena asks the question, “Why be color blind when we can be colorFULL instead?” Focusing on two friends learning to celebrate their different skin colors, this book takes a joyfull approach to discussing race. It also has Bible verses and discussion questions for parents to use at the end.

God's Very Good Idea, by my friend Trilla Newbell

Trilla’s book teaches that “we may look different, speak different, and play different - but we are all valuable.” It has a beautiful gospel centered message! With fun pictures and text, I love how it celebrates God’s very good idea of making lots of different people who could all enjoy loving Him and each other. As Trilla says, we really are a delightfully different family.

Zion and I are always looking for good books that celebrate God’s love for diversity. What do you recommend we read next? Please let us know your favorites in the Comments below!
