Deck the Halls: DIY Edition

I must confess, I love being crafty, but I’m the worst at actually carving out time and space in my life to be creative. Crafting takes money, time and energy. All the things that most people never have enough of. (I know, I’m not doing a good job of selling this whole DIY “Do it yourself” thing… stay with me though.)

With that said, crafting is something that can revitalize your soul and creates a space for you to either rest and recharge, or connect with others. It’s also something we can honor God through.

This past month I volunteered to make a few Christmas wreaths to sell at a charity event at my church and boy was I dragging my feet. Once I did start and eventually complete the wreaths, it was an amazing feeling to be able to delight in and admire my handiwork.

When we take the time to create something we’re proud of, it gives us a small glimpse into how our Creator feels about us. Ephesians 2:10 tells us that “we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Or consider Psalm 104 which says, "The glory of the Lord shall endure forever: the Lord shall rejoice in His works.”

Let this be an inspiration to not only do some fun crafting this holiday season, but to also meditate on how the Lord delights in you, His precious creation.

As you gear up to deck the halls—DIY style—here are some easy projects to consider.

Do you have a favorite DIY holiday project, or maybe some ideas you were already planning on making this year? Share your ideas below and let’s get our craft on!
