Advent is my favorite time of year and I love that our church celebrates Christ’s coming the four Sundays before Christmas. This year I’ve felt a pull to celebrate Advent in two specific ways and I invite you to join me!
Our first Christmas as a married couple nearly killed the joy. My husband and I both LOVE Christmas - so much so that we choose our wedding date to be just seven days shy of December 25th. We are crazy about having an anniversary in that dreamy season. However, our very first Christmas as a brand new family of two was tough to navigate.
Today is a busy day. I imagine moms and mother-in-laws, daughters and aunts, nieces and grandmas -- all the "Wonder Women" in this world -- hurriedly rushing to finish Thanksgiving preparations. There's much to be done and it seems there's never enough time to do it. But, in the busyness of this day, may we all take time to pray a heartfelt Thank You to our merciful Father.
I love fall weather, particularly once we pass Halloween (or as I call it – Reformation Day!) and get into November with all the glory of the cooler weather and full blown holiday preparations. I can’t get enough of the pumpkin flavored treats, changing leaves, warm drinks (coffee!!) and lots of opportunities to be around friends and family.
Do your holiday family get-togethers naturally end up with women, men, and children all gathered in separate rooms? Or, with certain family members passed out on the couch (I’m talking to you, Uncle Kelly)? After putting on your stretchy pants and eating all the deliciousness the holidays provide, I totally get it! I am not going to tell you to eat less or pace yourself (because holiday food is out of this world)...BUT, hear me out, you can nap later! So make sure the coffee isn’t decaf, gather the family together, and try out one of these family fun ideas:
Peggy has been rolling out perfect pie crusts and satisfying sweet tooths for years. Baking has always been a big part of the Diefenderfer family. For many years, they had a dream of opening a quaint, inviting cafe serving cupcakes and gourmet coffee to Oklahoma City. Almost 10 years ago, that dream finally came to life as Cuppies and Joe!
