Mother-daughter authors Jackie Green and Lauren Green McAfee don’t just know about legacy, they are actively creating one that will outlive them!
As the authors traveled the world sharing about their family’s 2017 opening of the Museum of the Bible in Washington D.C., they were approached by “scores of women wanting to do something of impact, to be part of something meaningful and lasting.” Only One Life is their inspirational response to equip and encourage women to use their ordinary everyday lives to become legacy builders themselves.
Each chapter focuses on one area of daily choices through which we can create a legacy. I especially like how Jackie and Lauren beautifully use examples from a hugely diverse group of women (from the Bible, history, and modern times) to teach and inspire. Another thing I thought added a fresh element was that the authors’ perspectives came from two different generations.
Easy to read, Only One Life is a timely reminder to women that we are each “uniquely created and equipped to become a woman of legacy.” The emphasis on how to practically use our everyday lives to become so is both interesting and inspirational. It also makes it seem more doable.
As Jackie and Lauren exhort, “...you only have one life. It is an extraordinary gift from God. Let’s learn to use our precious days on earth to make an impact that will last. No matter who you are, no matter what qualifications you feel you have or don’t have, we all have a few things in common: we have twenty-four hours in a day, and we have a desire for God to use our lives for His glory. That’s more than enough! So let’s be women who get busy doing good with the time that we do have.”
